- Maya Creation Legends
- Owing to the destruction of the entire literature of the Mayas, with the exception of a few codices which no one has been able to interpret successfully, the myths of the Mayas have largely passed into oblivion. Their Creation Legends appear to have resembled those of the Aztecs, although it is possible that the Popul Vuh of the Quiches presents a record having decided similarities with Maya ideas as to their origin. The Tzental tribe of the Mayas had a mother goddess known as Alaghom Naum, who was credited with the creation of mind and thought. Further details are available under the following headings: God ‘A’, Alaghom Naum, God ‘B’, Bacabs, God ‘C’, Cauac, Chac, God ‘D’, God ‘E’, Ekchuah, God ‘F’, God ‘G’, Ghanan, God ‘H’, Hunab-ku, Goddess ‘I’, Itzamna, Ix, Ixazalvoh, Iztat Ix, God ‘K’, Kabul, Kan, Kinich-Ahau, Kukulcan, God ‘L’, God ‘M’, Mulac, God ‘N’, Goddess ‘O’, God ‘P’, Patol, Tzental Indian Creation Legend, Yum Kaax, Zamna, and Zotzilaha Chimalman. The note on Maya Alphabetical Gods should also be consulted.
